Short answer

If you live in Denmark and your drone weighs over 250 grams or has a camera, you must register as a drone operator with Trafikstyrelsen. You do it with MitID, it costs DKK 65 (2026), and you only register once however many drones you own. Your operator number must be shown on all your drones.

Who must register?

  • Yes: drones over 250 grams.
  • Yes: drones under 250 grams with a camera or another sensor.
  • No: drones under 250 grams with no sensor.
  • No: toy drones, even with a camera.

It is you as a person who is registered, not each drone. As the drone operator you are responsible for having the right training, for the drone being insured and for it being maintained.

How to register in Denmark

  1. 1Get insurance firstYou must give the policy number, either from your home and personal liability insurance or from separate drone insurance.
  2. 2Log in with MitIDUse Trafikstyrelsen’s form for private drone operators. The same form is used to register a child under 15.
  3. 3Pay the feeRegistration costs DKK 65 (2026).
  4. 4Get your number and codeA receipt arrives in Digital Post with your drone operator number and a security code. Without Digital Post, the letter can take up to 30 days.
  5. 5Mark your dronesPut the number legibly and visibly on every drone you fly.

Visiting from another EU or EASA country

You only register in the country where you live. A registration from any EASA country is valid in Denmark, so just make sure your number is on the drone. Your certificate is valid here too.

Visiting from outside the EU

According to EASA, if you don’t live in an EASA country you register with the aviation authority of the first EASA country where you plan to fly. If your drone needs a certificate, check with that authority whether you must take the EU exam.

Marking and Remote ID

The drone operator number must be legible and visible on the drone. If you have marked the drone with your certificate number, replace it. The certificate number is no longer valid marking.

C-marked drones over 250 grams with a sensor must have Remote ID switched on. You activate it with your drone operator number and the three-digit security code. If you sell the drone, remove your number; the new owner puts on their own.

The security code

Don’t share your security code. It stops others from putting your number on their drone and flying on your responsibility.

Renewal

Your registration has an expiry date. When it has expired or is about to, you register again and get a new operator number. Remember to change the label on the drone and update Remote ID. If you lose your registration, it can be reissued for DKK 65.

You will also need a drone certificate if your drone weighs 250 grams or more.
