A2 exam questions
Here are 12 sample questions for the A2 certificate of competency, with the correct answer and an explanation. The Danish A2 exam has 40 questions covering topics such as weather, drone performance and distance from people.

Question 1
What must you have in place before you can sit the A2 exam?
- AA paid A2 course at a drone school.
- BAn A1/A3 certificate and completed practical self-training.
- CAt least 20 logged hours with a C2 drone.
- DA special permit from the Danish authority.
Show answer
Correct answer: B. An A1/A3 certificate and completed practical self-training.
You need the A1/A3 theory certificate and must have completed practical self-training. The exam provider may not require you to take a course first.
Question 2
You fly a C2 drone in subcategory A2 at normal speed, 10 metres up. How close may you come to uninvolved people?
- A5 metres horizontally.
- B10 metres horizontally.
- C30 metres horizontally.
- D150 metres horizontally.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 30 metres horizontally.
In A2 the 1:1 rule applies, but the distance must always be at least 30 metres horizontally. At 10 metres up, the 30 metres is what counts.
Question 3
When may you keep just 5 metres horizontally from uninvolved people in A2?
- AWhen the drone is in low-speed mode, flying no faster than 3 m/s.
- BWhen you fly lower than 5 metres.
- CWhen the people have given verbal consent.
- DWhen the drone weighs under 2 kg.
Show answer
Correct answer: A. When the drone is in low-speed mode, flying no faster than 3 m/s.
With a C2 drone in low-speed mode, flying no faster than 3 m/s, you may keep 5 metres horizontally from uninvolved people.
Question 4
You fly at 50 metres in subcategory A2 at normal speed. What is the minimum distance to uninvolved people?
- A5 metres.
- B30 metres.
- C50 metres.
- D100 metres.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. 50 metres.
The 1:1 rule gives 50 metres at 50 metres up. That is more than the 30-metre minimum, so 50 metres applies.
Question 5
Which drones is the A2 certificate of competency for?
- AC0 drones under 250 grams.
- BC2-marked drones under 4 kg.
- CC3 and C4 drones up to 25 kg.
- DC5 and C6 drones in the specific category.
Show answer
Correct answer: B. C2-marked drones under 4 kg.
Subcategory A2 is for C2-marked drones weighing under 4 kg. With the A2 certificate you may fly them closer to people than in A3.
Question 6
The wind is 5 m/s at ground level. What can you usually expect when the drone climbs to 100 metres?
- AThe same wind as on the ground.
- BLess wind, because the air is thinner.
- CStronger wind, because there is less friction from the terrain.
- DNo wind, because wind only exists near the ground.
Show answer
Correct answer: C. Stronger wind, because there is less friction from the terrain.
Terrain, buildings and trees slow the wind near the ground. Higher up there is less friction, so the wind is usually stronger. Check the wind at your flying height, not just on the ground.
Question 7
A strong wind is blowing from the west. Where is the risk of turbulence greatest?
- AOn the west side of a large building, where the wind hits.
- BOn the east side of a large building, in its lee.
- CDirectly above an open field.
- DOver a calm lake.
Show answer
Correct answer: B. On the east side of a large building, in its lee.
Turbulence forms mainly in the lee of buildings, trees and hills, where the air swirls after passing the obstacle. With a westerly wind, the lee side is to the east.
Question 8
It is a cold winter day below freezing. What typically happens to the drone's LiPo battery?
- AIt lasts longer because it doesn't get hot.
- BIt delivers less power and flight time gets shorter.
- CTemperature doesn't affect it.
- DIt charges itself during the flight.
Show answer
Correct answer: B. It delivers less power and flight time gets shorter.
Cold reduces the battery's capacity and its ability to deliver power. Keep batteries warm before take-off and plan for shorter flights with a bigger reserve.
Question 9
How does warm, humid air affect the drone's performance?
- AThe air is denser, so the drone gets more lift.
- BThe air is less dense, so the propellers work harder and the battery drains faster.
- CIt only matters for fixed-wing aircraft.
- DThe drone becomes lighter and can fly faster.
Show answer
Correct answer: B. The air is less dense, so the propellers work harder and the battery drains faster.
Warm, humid air has a lower density. The propellers produce less lift per revolution, so the motors work harder and flight time drops.
Question 10
When does the Danish authority grant permission to fly in a geographical drone zone?
- AAlways, if you pay a fee.
- BOnly if you hold an A2 certificate and the owner or user of the area agrees.
- COnly if the drone weighs under 250 grams.
- DNever. Geographical drone zones are always closed.
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Only if you hold an A2 certificate and the owner or user of the area agrees.
According to Trafikstyrelsen, permission to fly in geographical drone zones is only given if you hold an A2 certificate of competency and the owners of the area agree.
Question 11
You renew your A2 certificate by passing the A2 exam again. What happens to your A1/A3 certificate?
- AIt expires, and you must take the A1/A3 exam again.
- BIt is renewed automatically along with A2.
- CIt stays valid for life.
- DIt must be renewed at a drone school.
Show answer
Correct answer: B. It is renewed automatically along with A2.
When you renew A2 by passing the A2 exam again, your A1/A3 certificate is renewed too. Both certificates are valid for five years.
Question 12
What is a good approach if the drone suddenly loses its link to the controller?
- ASwitch the controller off and on again straight away.
- BRely on the lost-link procedure you set before take-off, such as return to home.
- CRun after the drone so you can control it from closer.
- DStop the motors from the app so it lands where it is.
Show answer
Correct answer: B. Rely on the lost-link procedure you set before take-off, such as return to home.
Before the flight, set what the drone does if the link is lost, such as returning to the take-off point at a safe height. Then you know what will happen and can keep the area clear.
